Which ranger do you have because normally you take the air housing off then the serpentine belt then the mounting bolts on the alternator then remove the electric connection. If your trying to locate the alternator it's on the left side of the engine above the tensioner


The idler pulley is between the alternator and the A/C compressor.

I found the instructions in a Chiltons #26242 book on Ford Escort/Tracer. I found it easier to remove the alternator as there is a idler pulley hidden beneath it that is a real bugger to get the belt around. Once I solved this problem everything else was easy. The tension pulley that Ford installed really helped as you don't have to adjust the belt.


The water pump pulley is the pulley right above the crank pulley (the big pulley in the bottom of the engine.) Right above the water pump pulley should be the alternator pulley, which drives the alternator. I'm guessing the water pump is behind the WP pulley. == == == ==
