some have 2 spring loaded catches. use either a standard flat head screw driver or a Phillips screwdriver. push down on the catch and at the same time rotate it until it releases and raises up when you remove the screwdriver. pull straight up on the distributor cap to remove it. mark the cap and plug wires like this. plug wire #1 to #1 position on cap. do this to all 6 plug wires and where you removed them on the cap. replace is the reverse. some caps have 2 clips to hold the cap on. just pry them back with a flat blade screwdriver. mark plug wires and the cap where you removed wires like this. #1 plug wire to plug in spot in cap. and so on. hope this helps

∙ 15y agoRemove the distributor cap and pull the rotor off. Sometimes the rust to the shaft so if you are careful you can use a screw driver and pry it off. It the rotor button breaks, they are cheap enough.
