To remove a clutch slave cylinder from as Astra gearbox, push the piston down against the spring pressure. Then release quickly.
how old is the astra? but more importantly what engine and gearbox does it have? early engines with certain manual gearboxes you can change the clutch without removing the gearbox and subsequently saving about 4hours labour time. otherwise it is a gearbox outjob.
By far the easiest way to answer this is to advise that you get the haynes manual for your model Astra. The subframe will need to be dropped to remove the gearbox.
HYDRAULIC CLUTCH IN THE 03 ASTRA
The gearbox oil is separate from the engine oil on a 2002 1.4 Astra, and much thicker.
hi i have a astra and the clutch seems high but vaxhall said its normal ?
u have to remove the subframe ball joints and sterring rack its bolted to the subframe remove the entire subframe frm car so the it sits on the engine mounts with car propped up so u can acess the gearbox and disconnect the gear linkage
gearbox is the "sealed for life" type. no oil change required.
There's a lever on the gearbox and the clutch cable connected to it. Take the locking plate out of the nut next to the lever and turn the nut until the clutch cable is taught again. Note that the clutch pedal should be 1" above the foot brake pedal.
Usually found screwed into the gearbox, high up,possibly just below the clutch arm. It's a chunky hexagon with a wiring loom plug on it.

1) Buy Haynes workshop manual for astra mk3 and the diesel engine. 2) Jack front up and put on blocks. 3) Drop sub-frame. 4) Undo gearbox bolts and make a gap between engine block and gear box. 5) Change clutch and re-assemble.
