To remove a clutch slave cylinder from as Astra gearbox, push the piston down against the spring pressure. Then release quickly.
To change the Astra clutch slave cylinder, first, ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Begin by draining the hydraulic fluid from the clutch system and disconnecting the hydraulic line from the slave cylinder. Remove any mounting bolts securing the slave cylinder to the transmission, then take out the old cylinder. Install the new slave cylinder, reconnect the hydraulic line, and refill the clutch fluid, ensuring to bleed the system to remove any air before testing the clutch operation.
how old is the astra? but more importantly what engine and gearbox does it have? early engines with certain manual gearboxes you can change the clutch without removing the gearbox and subsequently saving about 4hours labour time. otherwise it is a gearbox outjob.
To fit a clutch slave cylinder on a Vauxhall Astra, start by safely lifting and securing the vehicle. Remove the old slave cylinder by disconnecting the hydraulic line and unbolting it from the transmission. Install the new slave cylinder by securing it in place and reconnecting the hydraulic line, ensuring there are no leaks. Finally, bleed the clutch system to remove any air and verify proper operation before lowering the vehicle.
By far the easiest way to answer this is to advise that you get the haynes manual for your model Astra. The subframe will need to be dropped to remove the gearbox.
HYDRAULIC CLUTCH IN THE 03 ASTRA
The gearbox oil is separate from the engine oil on a 2002 1.4 Astra, and much thicker.

There's a lever on the gearbox and the clutch cable connected to it. Take the locking plate out of the nut next to the lever and turn the nut until the clutch cable is taught again. Note that the clutch pedal should be 1" above the foot brake pedal.
gearbox is the "sealed for life" type. no oil change required.
To add hydraulic fluid to an Astra gearbox, locate the transmission dipstick or filler plug, usually found on the top or side of the gearbox. If there’s a dipstick, remove it, wipe it clean, reinsert, and check the level. If there's a filler plug, remove it and use a funnel to add the appropriate type of hydraulic fluid until it reaches the correct level. Always refer to the vehicle’s manual for specific instructions and fluid specifications.
Usually found screwed into the gearbox, high up,possibly just below the clutch arm. It's a chunky hexagon with a wiring loom plug on it.
