To remove the radio from a 1985 Nissan 300ZX, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Then, carefully remove the trim surrounding the radio using a flat-head screwdriver or a trim removal tool. Unscrew the mounting screws holding the radio in place, then gently pull the radio out, disconnecting the wiring and antenna cable from the back. Finally, replace any trim pieces as needed.
* Remove the ashtray and ashtray holder * Remove the radio and mounting plate screws and lower the radio and unplug the electrical connector and antenna lead then push the radio out of the dashboard * Consider a hammer and chisel to remove the screw at the back bottom center, as there are no slots to insert a screwdriver from the bottom. This is in regard to the metal strap bolted to the back of the deck, also very near impossible to use a wrench on the tiny nut!
There are no shortcuts for this repair. You have to remove the entire dash. Its located on the pasenger side behind the dash just above the radio and climate controls.
