Remove/Renew motor on 1998 Passat:
1. Remove wipers by prying off the dome cap, undoing nut then pulling wiper of stub being carefull not to let the wiper stub end spring down and damage the screen.
2. Remove the plastic valance at the base of screen by undoing the tork screws at each end, bolt down thro' air cleaner on nearside and various spring clips, remove two water diverters at each end of valance ,prise out the valance from a groove at the base of the screen, stating on end. Do not use metal levers or you may damage the base of the screen.
3. Remove the cover from computer box by undoing the bolts to allow better clearance for the wiper assembly.
4. Remove the three bolts holding in wiper assembly, wiggle free of chassis and unplug connection to motor, with a wee bit of jiggery pokery remove the whole assembly from the car, at this point it may be easier to undo three bolts holding motor to the assembly and bring them out separately.
5 Replace in reverse order after cleaning out the grove for the valance at the base of the screen.
