Carpet is almost always held down around the edges with nailed down tac strips. You just grab an edge somewhere and tear it up off the floor. You'll then have to remove the tac strips. Try pulling up a corner maybe and looking underneath. You'll see. note: it's possible it was glued down but you remove it the same way. The glue leaves a mess though and you gotta scrape it off. Hope not.

You have to remove the carpeting and the panels on the passenger side of the car.
It is in the trunk. You have to remove the you trunk carpeting and it will reveal a silver plate.. Remove that and there is your filter.

It is in the fuel tank. On a 1993-1997 you can get to it from the trunk, remove the carpeting an its up by the back seat ON a 1998-2004 you have to remove the tank.
GET INTO THE TRUNK AND PULL DOWN THE CARPETING BY THE SIGNAL AND YOU WILL SEE THE BULBS JUST REMOVE AND REPLACE
The battery for these cars is actually located in the trunk under the carpeting. It's simply held in by velcro straps.
Its called a carpet knife. Or a single edged razor that has a retractable blade. Ask your local hardware supplier for one and for some replacement blades. Its less than 3 bucks.
I just had to do this on my own car. If you pull the carpeting back away from the corner of the trunk there are two or three small nuts that you have to remove. Then the light housing pulls out from the outside of the car. From there just remove the bulb, replace, and re-install. Just as a side note I broke one of the clips that holds the carpeting when I removed it so be careful.
