Disconnect the battery, remove the engine cover, remove the spark plugs wires and boots, and remove the spark plugs. Put in the new spark plugs, replace the spark plug wires and boots, replace the engine cover, and connect the battery.
For a 2002 MDX, there are four screws to remove the cover. Then remove the spring ring holding the intake hose. Remove the cover and replace the air filter. Replace the cover and screws and then reconnect the intake hose and spring ring.
To remove the tensioner, you will have to remove the belt as well as unbolt the motor from the motor mounts and lift the engine. Be cautious to block up the engine before removing the mounts. The thermostat is located on the front left of the engine housed in the lower radiator hose that attaches to the engine. You remove the thermostat cover which exposes the thermostat gasket and thermostat. You must disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fresh air duct, remove the air cleaner, drain the engine coolant before removing the thermostat cover.
