It is on top of the engine. You have to remove the air filter assembly and the cover between the heads.
From what I know, The cover must be held by screws or bolts ,but even tho since your vehicle is considered as high end it can only be removed by ASE CERTIFIED technicians by Mercedes Benz . They have special tools to remove them only at dealerships.
It's located in the engine compartment on the passenger side up against the firewall. You must remove the cover to expose the filter where the blower motor is located. Must remove many screws to remove cover
Looking at the engine, it's under the silver engine cover, about half way back. Remove 2 screws on the cover, carefullly slide/pull the cover to the right until it releases from the lugs under the black cover. Voila!

The 2000 Mercedes-Benz E3 20 crankshaft position in sensor is located on the back of the crankshaft. You will need to remove the rear engine cover in order to see the sensor.

Remove 6 long hexnut screws from cover next to oilfill cap. Remove cover.
