A musty odour is most often associate with dampness, which may be from a structural problem such as a bridged (e.g. buried) damp-proof course or a leaky roof; from poor ventilation perhaps combined with condensation; or from a leaking pipe.
The smell is probably that of decaying cellulose - typically wood, paper or natural-fibre fabrics.
So tracking down the source of the odour should point to the problem itself, hence its specific cure.

Open all the windows and doors and let it air out, and vacuum, dust, and otherwise clean it, and maybe use something like Febreze.
You probably have mold in the heater vent ducting.
