1. Jack up the rear of the truck and support it on jack stands. 2. Remove wheels. Spray penetrating oil on the wheel lugs. 3. On the back side of the drum you'll see a oblong rubber seal. Take it off. 4. Reach in with a flat screwdriver and back off the adjusting screw until the wheel spins free. If it spins harder, go the other way. 5. When it spins free take a rubber or wooded mallet and commence to beating on the back of the drum around the outside edge. Beat in different places arround the edge. Beat HARD. It will eventually break free.
Remove the tire and wheel from your 1988 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Remove the brake pads. When the brake drum is not loose you can tap on it with a hammer or mallet. Once the brake drum is loose it will slide off.

jack up the vehicle place on jack stand remove the tire[s] remove brake drum remove upper retaing springs for theshoes ,then on the inner side of the backing plate locate the brake line loosen it completely then remove the bolts that secure the wheel cykinder to the backing plate remove wheel cylinder reverse procedure to install then bleed the cyklinder to complete the install.

Remove the positive battery cable from your 1988 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new starter.
