My 1997 A6 wagon has a fuse box on the SIDE of the DASHBOARD where the driver's door meets the dash board. Open the driver's door and look for a panel that comes off. Hopefully this will help.

it is on the side of the passenger side dash board open the door and remove the cover with a screwdriver (there will be a small slit for the screwdriver to fit in) it should pop out and then pull it off though your drivers manual should show you how and where it is that is how i found out haha!!!
