It depends on the kind of vehicle. Usually, the flasher is located by the fuse panel, and is round (about 1" in diameter). It has flat spade plugs on the bottom side.

I just had to replace mine yesterday, it took me forever to find it. The flasher is located underneath the dash, behind the glove department on the passenger side. You'll have to remove the piece of the dash under the glove department, then remove the glove department itself by taking out the screws on it's hinges in order to gain access to the flasher.
