Assuming that it is anautomatic And it's just the shifter that you want, at the bottom of the shifter by the steering column there is a pin. Take a punch and drive the pin out.
you dont have to but it makes it a lot easier.
you need to get a special tool if you just want to pull the shift lever by itself.

There are no warning lights on the gear shift lever.
