it depends on what color or engine you have in it. if it is a 454 with colors that you wont usually see on a 1970's chevelle without a paint job just a factory color, then you might have a rare 1971 chevelle
Pass side, back of motor.
You would have to drill out the center of the lock or have a locksmith pick the lock.
With no key you will have to drill out the existing tumbler assembly from the switch in order to unscrew the ignition switch bezel.

# Remove the steering wheel and directional signal switch.It is not necessary to pull the wire harness out of the column # Place the lock cylinder in run # Insert a small screwdriver into the turn signal housing slot.Keeping the screwdriver to the right side of the slot,break the housing flash loose and depress the spring latch at the lower end of the lock cylinder. # Remove the lock cylinder
Try grabbing the steering column cover between the key and the dash. Get your hands around it like its someone's neck (as an example only). Rotate it back and forth lightly. Now try the key.
Your best bet is to have someone do it for you. But if you insist then I insist that you buy a Haynes manual.
