There usually is a small "C" clip holding the pin in place. You will have to remove it first. then pull the pin out.
Originally Sheridan, Benjamin and Crosman were 3 separate companies. Benjamin bought-out Sheridan. A few years later Crosman bought-out Benjamin. Today Crosman owns all 3 companies. In 1975 Crosman started serial numbering Benjamin / Sheridan air rifles. Before that (1975) it is not easy to identify the year the Benjamin or Sheridan's were made.

Remove the positive cable from your 1975 Chevrolet Corvette battery. Remove the two cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new starter.

You have blown seals or O-Rings. The rifle was made from 1975 to 1982. Crosman no longer makes parts for this airgun. BUT they offer a service to locate repair shops that repair the rifle. See the link Below. But first consider this. IF the rifle was in working order AND it was in perfect shape it would be worth around $50 to $60. Is it worth repairing? It would cost you almost that much to have it repaired. Today you can purchase a brand new Crosman 2100 ( almost Identical to your old 766 ) for $60 through "Pyramyd air" See the link below. It's up to you.

Better hope it is not a drum brake- it was originally equipped with a disc brake caliper.
