if it is using trnasmission fluid you could have a bad tansmission modulator. take it to a shop
The fuel pump in the older eldos is located inside the gas tank. once you drop the tank its pretty straightforward from there.
Mine in my 1983 Eldorado Are located inside the fenders on both size. On The ender side o the battery there should be a hole in it that 2 of thehorns should be. the other 2 are o n the opposite side of the engine bay
Get a carb. and you can eliminate alot of the unwanted mess in the engine bay.
disconnect battery and remove, drain radiator.remove top and bottom radiator hose, remove all 3 belts, remove fan shroud, remove fan blade, remove radiator, then remove water pump, when putting back together, replace thermostat.
Remove spark plug on #1 cylinder, rotate engine and use a screwdriver to feel when piston on TDC compression stroke. (All the way to top) Remove distributor cap and look at where rotor is pointing. That one. You can remove valve cover to tell compression stroke, both valves will be closed, otherwise you may be 180° off
Replace hoses and fittings
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine and remove the 2 thermostat housing bolts. Remove the thermostat and clean the surfaces. Install the new thermostat, housing and bolts. Reinstall the upper hose and top off the system.
Cadillac does not use inertia switches.
An engine that is compatible with the 1984 Cadillac 4.1 is the Olds 307. Another possibility is the Vortex 350.
If it is carburated (?) maybe in the inlet line of the Carb.
