Open the tail gate, lift the floor carpet at the rear. In some vehicles there are two layers of carpet.
There should be a 6 inch wide black metal panel running the width of the vehicle held down with a clip in the middle. Lift the handle, and turn 1/2 turn counter clockwise.
Lift the plate out towards you, using the clip as a handle.
In the middle of the space exposed is a silver 17mm nut. Use the wheel-brace (the spanner used to remove the wheel bolts) to undo this nut counter-clockwise.
From time to time check under the vehicle to see if the spare wheel cage has been released/lowered enough to unhook the cage and remove the wheel from the cage
Note, there may be a short "safety" rope which will need to be removed.
It is quite likely that on older vehicles the "hook" mechanism that is lowered using the above nut may have seized up due to corrosion, meaning the a new hook will have to be bought, and a hack-saw will be needed to cut the old hook off.

Hi If Zafira 99-05 then lots of Torx/crossheads then pull off - Westfalia tow bars have good picture If 95 onwards then more complicated - looking at info I reckon : Remove rear light clusters - 2 knobs inside - if you've no spare wheel then you'll have to remove the emergency blow upkit to get at them. This will show you how bumper clips into locating lugs. Next undo 2 torqx in each wheel arch. Then remove 2 locating 'push in clips' on bottom of bumper - these may easily break so get spares beforehand. Then gently pull upwards and backwards - 2 person task to ensure that the upper location clips by light clusters dont break. Cant be sure of any other bolts so be careful Hope this helps
