Unless it has a diesel engine, yes it has points (could be electronic) and spark plugs.
The 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass 3.1 liter engine spark plug gap is .028. Most spark plugs will come pre-gapped from the manufacturer.
One per cylinder. V6 has 6, etc.
The high idle may be caused by old spark plugs and wires. As far as the temperature problem there are several things that may cause this, but the thermostat is the easiest and cheapest thing to check.
Could be as simple as fouled spark plugs.
You can find the speedometer cable right above the differential on the transmission. This is located where the passenger axle plugs in.?æ
The 1989 Cutlass Ciera modern production spark plugs are pre-gapped from the factory and should not be altered. The OEM AC Delco Professional Platinum #41805 for this engine comes pre-gapped at .045 inches for reference purposes.
5/8 plug wrench
To remove rear spark plugs 96 olds and the like. first remove anything in your way from the top, be careful not to break electrical connection. Youll need a swivel ratchet with a long arm on it. 1 inch and 2 inch 3/8 extensions.Patience. The hardest part is removing the wires. I recomend changing the wire because chances are ull rip one out of its boot. (they were tight). Thats it , there was nothing special just a very very tight place to work.
Use a sparkplug socket and turn counter clockwise
Could be in need of a tune up. Start with replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
check your battery or you spark plugs
to remove the front plugs, first remove the plastic cover that is next to the small heat sink. then remove the next plastic panel. the plugs have no wires, but have boots around them. the first 3 are forward facing and are relatively easy to remove. the other 3 are in the rear and are significantly more difficult to access. Then use a plug wrench to remove plugs and replace with new plugs.
remove the coil pack; use a jointed extension with sparkplug socket to reach plugs.
Work one at a time to avoid connecting the wrong spark plug wire. Gently pull on the wire at the connection point to release it from the plug. Use a spark plug socket to remove the old plug. Measure the gap on the new plug and ensure it is at .045. Install the new plug and reattach the wire. Repeat for the other plugs.
where would the spark plugs at on a Oldsmobile 1989 engine
If you mean the oil pan drain plugs they will be in the oil pan there could be 2 plugs but most cars have only the 1 it will just be a bolt on the lower part of the oil pan could also be on the side of the oil pan. good luck
Yes he is right about moving the engine. Only block the wheels and put trans in neutral so not to damage trans. To access the three spark plugs in the back of the engine, you must remove the two bolts in the 2 torque struts on the front of the engine. Then, using the top loop mount, rock the engine forward and lock in place with the torque struts in their lower bolt holes. Afterwards, rock the engine back to original position and insert torque strut bolts in their original position. On my '91 Cutlass, with the 3.1L, the easiest way I found to change the back three spark plugs was to remove the serpentine belt and then remove the alternator. Then had all the space I needed to change the plugs.
how do change the spark plugs and the coil pack on a 2000 Oldsmobile intrigue
the front ones you can change buy just removing the plug wires and using the proper tool the back plugs you have to undo the front motor mounts and pry or pull motor forward ex ( i had to chain mine to a pole and back it up really slow with the mounts undone) do not try to do this with one persone i recoment using a come a long the motor will alow enuff movement for you to get at the back 3 plugs with tight space but it can be done. read your servace manual.
Look on your intake for the firing order, it should be stamped on tht front raised section of the intake.
Look in the fusebox for a round silver or chrome thing that just plugs in, if it isn't in the fusebox it will be up under the dash under the steering column.
Remove the four bolts on the cover plate and lift straight up exposing the wiresets.
