You have to disconnect the wires from the passenger side wheel well then get under the truck and take off the front part of the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front axle then take off the bottem half of the bell housing finally take the two bolts out of the starter and you should have the room to wiggle it out HAVE FUN!

Your starter is making a metal grinding noise in a 94 Saturn?

This usually happens when the starter drive goes bad or if the flywheel has been damaged by the starter or previous starter failure. When you pull the starter to have a look, turn the flywheel and check all the teeth on it before replacing the starter.

Should the starter gears be in contact with the fly wheel before engaging the starter?

Absolutely not. The starter gear must fully disengage the flywheel gears when you release the starter. Otherwise when the engine starts the starter will continue to be turned by the engine.

Where is the starter on a 2006 Ford Freestar?

Under the oil pan joint level mounted into the transmission housing so it can engage the flywheel ring gear. The starter is accessed from under the vehicle. There are 2 bolts that attach the unit.WARNING: The starter is connected to the battery with heavy high current leads that can carry dangerous currents. Always disconnect the battery ground terminal before working on or around the starter. Be sure the protective covers are in place before reconnecting the battery.

Why the starter continues to go out?

There probably are many causes, but the one which I have observed several times, and therefore seems most common, is abnormal tortional stress caused by misalignment of the starter to the flywheel. It is very important that the axis [centerline] of the starter shaft be precisely perpendicular to the face of the flywheel. If the starter is misaligned, the uneven loading of the teeth of the starter gear, and the gear teeth on the flywheel will cause abnormal wear on the flywheel and starter drive gear teeth, and excessive excentric loading on the starter bearings and commutater. The TBF [time before failure] depends on the seriousness of the abnormal loading and wear, and in severe cases, failure of the starter can occur within hours of use.

What is flywheel what is connector between the engine and transmitter in Chrysler concord 94?

Answer The flywheel is connected to the crank shaft on the engine. It has teeth on it that the starter connects to to start the engine when the starter gear is energized. After the flywheel and before the transmission is the torque convertor. This is what pressurizes the transmission so that is it shifts into and between gears as the car is running. Good luck.

If a car starter is making a grinding noise before or sometimes only after starting can it be caused by a computer problem?

no this is not a computer problem.it is either a starter motor problem or the ring gear on flywheel is worn

How do you take a starter off on a 1979 impala?

First and foremost, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES from the battery! After doing this, disconnect all the wires from the starter, making sure to remember where they go back to. As I recall, there are three 9/16" bolts running vertically up through the starter housing that hold it to the block. Remove these, and the starter is out! Be aware that there may be shims between the starter and block to align the starter gear properly to the flywheel. Remember which ones were placed where, and how many. Replace them in the same order when putting in the new starter. You may also have to loosen the plastic flywheel shroud to remove the statrer completely. This is an easy job if you can get the car safely up in the air to give you room to work. Spray the whole area with degreaser before beginning to make your job easier. Good luck!

Why does a 1994 Topaz with 120000 on the engine make a grinding noise when starting or it wont start at all?

That is a broken/worn teeth on the flywheel or on the starter pininon gear. That is why you hear a grinding noise. It's the starter turning without being able to engage. From what you describe I would suspect that the starter is not fully engaging. I'm assuming that the grinding noise you hear when you try to engage the starter is INSTEAD of the engine cranking. If I assumed wrong, ignore the following:Pull the starter, check the flywheel for excessively worn areas. Most of the time the flywheel is ok, it's just the starter. If you feel comfortable working on the starter, just get a new bendix and clean up the rest of it. Any time you disassemble a starter you should replace the bushings and brushes. Never remove the starter with the battery still connected. Remove the negative terminal from the battery before you attempt to remove the starter.

How do you take the starter off of a 1995 licon town car?

on the front of the transmission you will see the starter bolted to the bell housing. unbolt the two bolts that hold on the starter, and the positive battery cable. before you do any work to the starter DISCONNECT the battery

What causes a bad flywheel on a manual transmission?

bad flywheel can be caused by incorrectly adjusted clutch. in correct use od clutch,9such as riding clutch).can also be caused by a worn clutch not being replaced before it damages flywheel. one other problem with a flywjheel can be the ring gear worn or missing teeth, this is usually caused by a starter motoer being installed that does not match the flywheel properly

What is the diiference between a VW 6 volt flywheel or 12 volt flywheel?

I think you should check your terms. Voltage has nothing to do with the flywheel at all. I can only assume you are talking about 6 Bolt or 12 Bolt flywheel. The difference between that is clear. It is the number of bolts used to fasten the flywheel.I think before answering one should understand the VW.This question is relevant to the old beetle not the new beetle. They were used on bugs up to 1966.The 6 volt flywheel is from a 6 volt car , It is smaller in diameter and has a different tooth count than the larger 12 volt flywheel. It will only mesh with the 6 volt starter. If you are converting a bug to 12 volt and changing the starter and flywheel you'll have to grind out the bell housing on the 6 volt transmission.A lot of people leave the starter 6 volt when converting to 12.All the old bugs have the same number of flywheel bolts. One large gland nut, that's all

You have replaced the starter battery and solenoid on your 94 F-150 still clunks when you try to start any ideas?

I'd check the battery cables, both at the battery and where they connect to the solenoid and starter. Make sure to check the ground cable too. It should have a solid ground to the engine before the starter will work properly. it very well might be the teeth on your flywheel.. You have to pull flywheel cover where starter goes agnist the block and transmission and look to see if the teeth are ground down a lil bit..
