Two 1/2" or 13MM bolts hold it on. But, you may have to move the alternator, or it's bracket to reach them.
Remove the hose from the thermostat housing then remove the housing and then the thermostat.

Remove the water supply hose from your 1987 Chevy Astro thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the old thermostat and drive in the new thermostat.
follow the top radiator hose to locate the thermostat housing, remove the hose from the housing then unbolt the housing. remove and replace the thermostat and rebolt the housing to the motor, replace the hose The housing is made of cheap metal and should be replaced. It is important to "seat" the thermostat properly. Also, it is much easier to replace and remove the thermostat housing if you first remove the timing belt housing.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator towards the engine. The upper radiator hose is connected to the thermostat housing on the engine side. The thermostat is under/inside the thermostat housing. Remove the upper radiator hose from the housing then remove the two bolts holding down the thermostat housing then remove the thermostat housing to expose the thermostat.
It is at the engine end of the upper rad hose. Remove the housing and there it is. When replacing it make sure the spring goes toward the engine/
Remove the water supply hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. The thermostat will lift out. Reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
Drain the water from the cooling system. Remove the water hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Remove the thermostat. Reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. It will lead you to the thermostat housing. Drain coolant from radiator, remove upper radiator hose from engine, remove the two bolts holding the thermostat housing to engine, remove housing, remove thermostat.
Drain the water from your radiator. Remove the radiator hose, from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Replace the thermostat housing gasket and reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
Remove the water supply hose from your Chevy Equinox thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Lift the old thermostat out and drop in the new thermostat.
Remove the water supply hose from the top of your thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Lift the old thermostat out and drop in the new thermostat.
