The clock spring is located behind steering wheel. If clock spring is defective, it has been recalled for your vehicle and has a life time warranty .
To replace the clock spring in a 2000 Grand Vitara, first disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental airbag deployment. Remove the steering wheel by loosening the center nut, then detach any wires connected to the airbag and steering column. Carefully unbolt the old clock spring from its position, ensuring to note the wiring connections, and then install the new clock spring in reverse order. Reconnect the airbag and steering wheel, and finally reconnect the battery.
