The compressor is not hard to change, just loosen a belt, some mounting bolts, and a few hoses. The problem, however, is that once you remove the coolant lines, you let air into your a/c system, then it needs to be evacuated and recharged. If you don't, your a/c won't work properly because the air in the lines will cause the compressor to cavitate, and you could ultimately ruin the new compressor, so either way, you should take it to a certified a/c service center.
