I just had to do this a few days ago and it took some time but was relatively easy.

First - Make sure you have the proper replacement impeller, nothing is worse than getting half way through a job and discovering you have the wrong parts.

You will also need:

Ratchet set or drill driver

Screwdrivers

Set of channel lock or similar pliers

Set of normal pliers

Comfortable chair and some shade

Your beverage of choice

# Make sure your pump is unplugged and turn your filter to backwash. This will keep water from rushing out when you disconnect the pump. Now disconnect the hose coming from the skimmer from where it attaches to the pump. If you hurry and stick the hose in the top of the skimmer basket you won't get very wet. Next, disconnect the hose to the filter where it connects to the pump. Pick up the pump (not by the electrical cord) and take to your workspace. Turn the pump upside-down and unscrew the screws that hold the top cover on the pump. You will now see an electrical motor connected to a water pump assembly. At the back of the motor you will see where the electrical wires are connected. There should be a white, black and green wire. Make a note of which wire is connected where.

# Gently pull the white and black wire from the back of the motor with a wiggling motion. Unscrew the screw connecting the green wire to the back of the motor. Be careful not to strip it, as if your pump is old enough for the impeller to go out the grounding screw will probably be at least a little corroded. # Next look for a silver strap holding the motor down on the base. Unscrew that and you will have the motor and pump free from the housing. # On the front of the water pump there will be two screws holding the basket and casing. Unscrew them and give the basket a gentle twist to remove. # You will now see six screws holding the water pump together. Make a mark with a screw or something else sharp to make sure you can get the halves lined back up the correct way. Unscrew the screws and separate the two halves. (One half of the pump will still be attached to the motor) # The round black plastic disk with the shaft on one side is what you will be replacing. Since you are replacing it the disk is probably disconnected from the shaft. Use a set of pliers to hold on to the remnants of the shaft while using the channel locks to hold the steel shaft between the motor and the pump. Unscrew the impeller shaft, screw the new impeller (not to tight). # Put everything back together in the same order you took it apart. Be careful not to mess up the gasket between the pump halves. # Once you get everything put back together make sure to check for leaks and you should be good to go.

How do you take an impeller off a hayward power flo lx pool pump?

To remove the impeller from a Hayward Power-Flo LX pool pump, first turn off the power and disconnect the pump from the electrical supply. Next, remove the pump's front cover by unscrewing the screws, then take out the diffuser to access the impeller. Use a socket wrench to unscrew the impeller by turning it counterclockwise, and be cautious of any debris that may have accumulated. Once removed, inspect the impeller for damage or wear before replacing or cleaning it.

Would a booster pool pump help get more pressure to an existing pool pump?

Not necessarily, it depends on the condition of the original pump. It may have a worn or warped impeller. I would look into making sure the original pump is in good shape.

How can I increase pool pump pressure effectively?

To increase pool pump pressure effectively, you can try cleaning or replacing the pool filter, checking for any clogs in the pump or pipes, adjusting the pump speed or impeller size, and ensuring proper water level in the pool. Regular maintenance and proper adjustments can help improve pump pressure.

What can you do if you opened the pool but the skimmer basket had a crack and some leaves are caught in the pump lowering the water flow?

Normally there are 2 baskets before the pump, One behind the skimmer and one on the pump. However If you only have the one basket then you will have rubbish caught in the impeller of the pump, You will have to take the pump apart and clean the impeller out.

How do you fix a leaking shaft seal on your Hayward SP-1515 power-flo pump?

Replace the seal assembly. Your local pool store should have them in stock. you'll have to remove the strainer basket to get to the impeller. The impeller will then have to be removed. the seal is under the impeller. Remove the impeller by taking the back cover off of your motor. Inside you'll see all the electrics of the motor. In the center, on the shaft, it is slotted to accept a 7/16" wrench. Place a wrench on the shaft and twist off the impeller. Replace the seal assembly and put back together.

Why doesnt pool pump prime itself all the way?

If pump primes, but only partway, it is usually because the impeller is clogged up with foreign debris (leaves, pebbles, etc). It may be necessary to disassemble the pump and clear out the impeller. One other lazy-man's way that often works is as follows: With pump turned off, close the valve in front of the pump. Remove pump lid, and open air relief valve on top of filter tank. Use a screwdriver to gently rotate the impeller (reaching from inside the pump housing, where your pump basket is). The water in filter tank will run backwards, hopefully pushing the wads of leaves or whatever out. Try this first before disassembling the pump. If pump basket is split/damaged, replace it. How can you silence the high frequency sound of your above ground swimming pool filter pump?

If the sound is more like a very loud growl it may be the bearings within the motor. If the motor is less than 1.5 hp or 2.0 hp - replace the motor. You might have to get down next to the pump to determine if it is the motor or the impeller at or right behind the pump pot basket area. If it sounds like the later area it could be that the impeller has debris in it or that may be coming off the shaft. A pool repair tech would know almost immediately. If it is debris in the impeller, that would be the least expensive way to correct. A fairly simple job. Ken
