Thermostat is going up and down and losing antifreeze in my 1999 Tahoe?

The reason the temp. gauge is going up and down is because it is low on coolant. Now where it is leaking I don't know, but you can start by checking these few things. First check the engine oil and see if it's over full or if the oil is white in color, If it is then the intake manifold gaskets are leaking coolant into the oil. You will have to replace the intake gaskets and change the oil and filter a few times within 5 to 10 mins. of engine running time to clean engine up. If the oil is okay when you check it and it's not white in color then it's not leaking into the engine and that's a good thing. Then Fill radiator up, put cap on and start engine. Take your fingers and fill around all 4 corners of the intake manifold where it bolts to the heads, or look at the corners real close to see if there is antifreeze leaking or a white resedu on the intake corners. If there is then the intake is leaking and you will still have to replace gaskets on intake. THIS IS A REAL COMMON PROBLEM WITH YOUR ENGINE.

Why is oil in coolant bottle?

Does it have a oil cooler on the engine ?? If it does then oil runs through tubes that are inside of the radiator to cool the oil, and the tubes are leaking oil into the engine coolant. REPLACE RADIATOR. Really need to know what you are working on. Engine size and year. It could verywell be something else. Let us know NEUTZ.

There is oil in my radiator in my 02 Chevrolet Monte Carlo but it doesn't overheat What wrong with it?

Check to see if there is coolant on the engine block. It is common for the Monte Carlos, along with other GM cars equipped with the 3400 V6 engine to experience leaking intake manifold gaskets. A leaking intake manifold will cause oil to leak into the coolant system and even worse, for coolant to leak into the oil system.

Will oil float on engine coolant?

It is possible for engine oil to float on engine coolant. This occurs when there is a leaking or blown gasket.

How do you replace oil cooler on N14?

To replace the oil cooler on an N14 engine, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Drain the engine oil and coolant, then remove any components obstructing access to the oil cooler, such as the intake manifold or exhaust. Disconnect the oil cooler lines and mounting bolts, then carefully remove the old cooler. Install the new oil cooler by reversing the process, ensuring all connections are secure and refill the engine with oil and coolant before starting the engine.
