YouTube has one or more videos on doing this. Sorry, I can't give the exact address. One thing I found when I replaced the driver's side mirror on my 1998 SW2, and I subsequently read about this happening on some blogs, is that you can't get a replacement for the triangle-shaped plastic piece on the inside part of the mirror (where the toggle comes through) and the old piece won't go back in right. I don't know if there is a solution to this, but if so, I haven't found it.

∙ 16y agoright in the front corner of the door on the inside should be a black panel pop off that panel and the nuts that hold the mirror on will be right there
