Look at the base ot rhe two posts supporting the headrest. One side has the button to push in for adjusting the height. On the opposite post base, there will be a small hole on the side. You will need to push something like a small screwdriver in there while pullling up on the headrest to remove it.
Hold down the small headrest adjuster release button, and then pull the headrest straight up and out.
There is a button at the bottom of the headrest where it goes into the seat press the head rest down as you press in the button and it will release it as you pull up
At the top of seat where the two rods of the headrest fit there is a button to push gently inward to adjust to your liking.
There is a button near the hazard light button to do that.
Use the controls on the side of the seat that you would use to adjust your seating position. The button that you would use to adjust the reclining angle on your seat is also the button that will adjust your headrest. Simply slide the button down and the headrest will lower.
On most cars theres a lever that you push and it can adjust hieght. But older cars no. 2012 Cruze has two types of headrest, the rear have a button release on BOTH posts in order to fully remove the headrest. The front headrest does not have a second button as it is not intended to be removed. HOWEVER ..... if you look closely at the side that does not have a button, there is a very small hole. Use a small allen wrench, slide it into the hole to release the locking mechanism. You must also hold in the button on the other side and pull up on the headrest all at the same time. The headrest will slide right out. Do not drive the vehicle with the headrest removed. I only needed to remove the headrest to install a seat cover.
Press the release button and raise the headrest as far as it will go. There's a small hole in the plastic base that does not have the release button. Straighten a paperclip and insert into the hole, pressing until you feel the release lever move. The headrest should lift out.

After lifting the headrest to the uppermost position, use a paperclip to push in on the headrest guide bracket on the side that doesn't have the push button on it. There is a tiny hole that you have to slide the paperclip in.
hold the adjustment button in as you pull the headrest up
The headrest has metal tubes that go down into the seat back, they go through plastic clips that have a button that you can press. If you can feel for the button by pressing on the back of the seat back with your thumb. This requires alot of effort and pressure. If you feel it and can push the button, pull up on the headrest at the same time. You can pnly do one side at a time. However, if you are going to recover the seats anyway... just cut the back of the seat back open about 2 inches directly below where the bottom of the headrest goes into the seat, look inside for the white plastic clips, press the button, etc.
