I located the instrument panel illumination lights on my 1990 Nissan D21 Pick-up by removing the clear plastic panel that protects the gauges and pulling the instrument panel forward. To do this, screws must be removed from the dash panel located around the instrument panel. There are also screws securing the clock adjustment knob and the glass/instrument panel itself. The bulbs twist into the backside of the instrument panel. There are several of them. Do you still need an answer? yes
You have to pull the instrument panel to change any instrument bulb, but the panel comes out pretty easy. 1. Adjust the steering wheel as low as possible to keep it out of the way. 2 Unscrew the two screws at the top of the instrument panel bezel. 3 Pull the bezel straight out, It has a couple of lower clips, but they will pop out. 4. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the instrument panel in place, 2 on lower edge and 2 on upper edge. 5. Pull the Instrument panel cluster straight out, carefully. As you get it out a bit you can reach the several ribbon connectors in the back, mine has 3. Disconnect those connectors and the panel lifts out. 6. The bulbs are in the back, and there are lots of them, one for each warning light, etc. Pull the bulbs and check them, or maybe you already know what's lighting up and what isn't. Replace bad bulbs. 7. Reassemble in opposite order.
Remove the instrument panel cover retaining screws. There are four screws that need to be removed. The instrument panel light bulb's will be visible. Push the light bulb in and turn at the same time to remove the light bulb.
