The best time to do this is during a brake job. This applies to both front and back rotors. If you are doing the back rotors, make sure you don't have the emergency brake on or you'll never (and I do mean never) get them off without serious damage to something.
Remove the tires.Using an Allen wrench/socket remove the brake calipers.Using a wrench/socket remove the frame that holds the calipers. If this is the first time you're doing rotors you may have 2 or 3 of these round things (sorry, the name escapes me) that hold the rotor on at the factory. Take a screwdriver and some pliers and unscrew them off the threads. You do not need to keep these unless you really want to.The rotors will just slide off now. If they're stuck at all, get a mallet (not a hammer) and tap around the backside of the rotor to loosen it up.
Good Luck.
1500 or 2500???
The minimum thickness for a 1998 Chevy Tahoe's rotors is 30mm. Rotors must be replace when they fall below this thickness due to reduced braking power.
Front or rear rotors and 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, it makes a difference.
You can try this method thanks to the video below...

2 wheel or 4 wheel drive makes a big difference.
It's called "brake chatter", and it's caused by warped brake rotors. Replace the rotors and the problem should go away.
how do you replace the front rotors on Toyota Land Cruiser
Change front brake rotors on a 1998 Hyundai Accent?
With the front end jacked up and on supports, remove the wheel, remove the calipers, then just pull off the rotor and replace. It is good to replace the disc pads also.
no but it is recomended.
pull off the front wheels. remove the calipers. remove the two screws that hold on the rotors. replace the rotors and reverse the procedure.
