Manual trans shift knobs simply unscrew, and are attached with a 1/2-20 thread. To replace the shifter on an automatic, you need to take out the center console and the unfasten some clips holding it on down there from what I remember.
MTX knobs from the 2000-2003 Focus will also work without removing reverse lockout.
