The best way to do this is to use a 5/8in. spark plug socket with a wobble head made on to it, a 3in. extention, and about a 6-8in. extention. Another wobble makes it easier but, is not necessary. Be VERY CAREFUL not to break the plugs off. The driver side is much easier than the passenger side but, they can all be done from the top. If you want you can take the EGR exhaust crossover loose. You can reuse the gaskets if you don't bend them up. This creates alot of room. Be patient, as this job takes time. If you still can't get #8 you can take the engine mounts loose and move it over. No you don't have to remove the engine. Last, only use AC Delco plugs for this application. If not you may compromise your throttle response and fuel mileage.
