Remove Power Steering, and A/C belts. Move the A/C compressor out of the way if you have this. While Alt/water pump belts are still tight, try to loosen the bolts on the water pump pulley. If the pulley moves, you may need to jam a screwdriver in there to hold it. Loosen the belts, unbolt the alternator if you do not have enough access and remove. Getting the alternator out is usually tricky and involves unbolting the main bracket as well. Unbolt the water pump, clean gasket surfaces, install new gasket, install new pump. Put everything back.
To change the water pump on a 1998 Saab 900s Turbo, first, disconnect the battery and drain the coolant. Remove the serpentine belt and any components obstructing access to the water pump, such as the timing cover. Once exposed, unbolt the old water pump, clean the mating surface, and install the new pump with a new gasket. Reassemble everything in reverse order, refill the coolant, and check for leaks.

try taking off the oil filler cap at the top of the engine...on my '95 turbo 900s that's where it was, the oil stick was attached to the oil filler cap.
Presuming you are asking about the 5-speed and not the automatic. It is on the bottom of the transmission, and is recessed. It requires a special tool.Later 900s did not have a drain plug for the transmission.
To replace the idler pulley on a 1996 Saab 900S, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley with a wrench. Then, unbolt the idler pulley from its bracket and replace it with the new pulley, ensuring it is tightened securely. Finally, reattach the serpentine belt, making sure it's properly aligned on all pulleys before starting the engine.
