This is about a 6-10 hour job for a mechanic and involves removing timing chain and many other items. Gasket(s) are expensive and you may want to do the timing chain while your at it if your milage is high. Quotes for my 1998 Z24 water pump to be fixed were between $650-1100 CND.
I agree with the previous. When I bought my 95 z24 5 years ago, I made the dealer replace the water pump because it was going out. I was told it was around $500 and a 6 hour job. Half the motor comes apart to get at it. On a non-z24 it is an easy fix.
