With Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) open the System Preferences. Select the Desktop and Screen Saver pane and then the Desktop tab. At the bottom is a tick box labelled Translucent Menu Bar.
To get out of a "Safe Boot" on any Mac just restart (reboot) the computer and it will restart into the original OS.

The items displayed on the right hand side depend what you have turned on in System Preferences - many items have a Show In Menu bar option. You can also add software that will put an icon in the menu bar. Unless their Mac is an exact clone of your Mac there is likely to be variations in the menu bar.
System Preferences, usually you can access it via the Dock (that popup menu at the bottoms/side similar to the Task Bar) or the Apple menu.
If you're asking for how to restart your Mac, just click the Apple logo on the top left corner and click restart (the 3rd one from the bottom)
Hold down the alt/option when your restart your computer.
Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner and select About This Mac. This will open a window which will give the version of Mac OS X you are running. From the Apple menu select Software Update... which will check if there are any updates available for the Mac.
Click anywhere on the empty desktop, then at the top of the screen in the Apple menu bar is a menu that says Help, ask you question in the search bar. To get more information you should be connected to the internet when you access Help as it will access some new content online some times.
Not sure about Mac OS X but, in Linux it depends on what desktop environment you use. Some don't use 'Start Menu's at all. I'm not sure they have names at all other than application menu/list.
Click on the Apple menu icon in the top left corner and select About This Mac. A window will appear saying Mac OS X and underneath it will give the Version 10 dot something.
Reboot means to restart. To restart or reboot click the apple icon top left and then click Restart.
When installing Mac OS X you can select a custom installation option from a drop down menu that allows you to decide which applications etc. are installed.
