照れ臭い /te re ku sai/ is 'embarrassing' in Japanese. Due to omission of pronouns and the interchangeability of the two concepts 'embarrassing' and 'embarrassed' at a slight twist of the meaning, to some it might mistakenly seem that 恥ずかしい /ha zu ka shii/ would be the word, whereas it means 'embarrassed' only.
