∙ 12y agoIf the person they greet is either a respectable person or someone they don't know well, austrians would say "Grüß Gott" or "Grüß Sie" (which means something like "I greet you")
It depends on the daytime whether they say "Guten Morgen" (Good morning), "Guten Tag" (in the noon or afternoon) or "Guten Abend" (evening).
Friends are often greeted with "Hallo", "Hi" or "Hey".
You could use "Servus" (means slave in latin - just for information) for people you don't know but also for those you know well, it doesn't matter. Also, you can use "servus" when you want to say goodbye.
If austrians want to ask about their opposite's mood, they say "Wie geht es Ihnen" to a respectable person or "Wie geht es dir" to someone familiar.
