It could also be "Kore ga hoshii" and "Are ga hoshii" I think.
If you wanted to be specific, like about cats, you would say: "Sono ga hoshii" or "Kono ga hoshii" or "Ano ga hoshii" I think. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure. I'm not an expert on Japanese, yet.
