Well, I think that even though there are different dates of Valentines in the whole world, people/couples/boyfriends/girlfriends still do the same things to each other like sending flowers. Including Japan.
Valentine's Day is celebrated in Japan on February 14th. Unlike many other countries, on Valentine's Day, only girls may give presents to boys on this day.
There is a separate day for boys to give girls presents. This is called "White Day".
Since Valentine's Day is an import to Japan, there is no native Japanese word for "Valentine's". So they simply say, "Happy Valentine's Day", but because Japanese doesn't really have the sounds of 'V' and 'L', they say it "Happy Barentine's Day"
They do, though it is deviates somewhat from the American custom. In Japan, it is customary for girls to give boys gifts on Valentines Day. In March, they have a holiday called "White Day," where boys return the favor by giving gifts to girls.
On Valentine's Day in Japan, women give gifts to men they like. It is a good way for the shy girls to let the guys know. It is similar to America in the respect that they tend to spend as much of the day as possible with the one they love.
Men do not generally give gifts on Valentine's Day, but on March 14th they have White Day, where Men will give gifts, mostly to people that gave them gifts on Valentine's Day.
