Merhaba ( Hello ) Selam ( Hi )
Hello is "merhaba" in polite Turkish. But, there is one more "hello" in Turkish called "selam", which you can say to your family, friends. It would be strange if you say "selam" to your manager or boss.
'Merhaba' means hello, you greet someone by saying merhaba when you see someone in real life. On the phone however, you say 'Alo'.
