I was raised on the Texas-Mexican border and the name I learned was "gartijo". The gartijos in south Texas are pinkish and with a light behind them at night they are almost translucent. You can see their intestinal layout and if one is a female with eggs you can see them. They like getting on the window screens at night to catch insects which are attracted to the light. They are considered to bring good luck and are often welcomed in the house and treated with affection as they help rid the house of pests. They do leave their little calling cards behind to let you know they are on duty but they are not difficult to clean up.
I would say a Crested Gecko, although you can get a colourful gecko like a loepard gecko
Aloha: Moʻoʻalā [mo O ahla] but we just say gecko.
I would say somewhere by 8/12 month's possibly more depending on the leopard gecko.
This is from the "Geico" commercial where the gecko is in the refrigerator looking for his egg salad.

recovering a lost gecko is very hard. I'm sorry to say it but if the you haven't found the gecko in 3 days it's probably dead. to prevent this use a lizard leash.
The scientific name for Tokay Gecko is Gekko gecko.

Sister in law in Spanish is cunada.
They have the same name, but their color might be different. The spots and striped might be at their tail, the whole body, or the head. Their skin colors can be yellow, pinkish-orange, and that's all i know. :D
