O meu nome é may also be expressed, and perhaps more often, as Chamo-me or Eu me chamo. O = the. meu = my. nome = name. Chamo = [I] call. me = myself. Eu = I [which doesn't have to be used, because listeners can tell by the verb ending in -o that the speaker is the first person form of 'I']. me = myself. chamo = [I] call.

It works on the same grammatical principle of French "Je m'appelle _____" and Spanish "me llamo _________" and literally means "I call myself ________"
