The Way to get animals on the Harvest Moon: Island Of Happiness is like this, when you start out the first year you will get a person named Gannon. He will be willing to build animal barn and a chicken coop and the chicken coop is less expensive so start with that then you can get the animal barn in which you will start out with a baby calf.

Before you can buy livestock you need to hire Gotz to build an livestock barn. The barn can hold 4 animals in any combination of cows and sheep. The livestock barns are much larger than the poultry barns so make sure you have room on your field to place them and the fence to surround the building. If you don't place the fence around the barn then the animals can walk behind your barn and scatter around the farm. You will also need to develop a pasture for the animals to graze in. If the animals do not have mature grass to eat then you can not keep them outside. You can buy Grass Seed from Karen's telephone store for 500 G each. Grass grows in Spring, Summer, and Fall. It will be covered in snow during the Winter but will rejuvenate when Spring arrives. If you hire Gotz to build the Silo then you can harvest and store your cut grass for Fodder during Winter or rainy days when the animals must be indoors. After you have a barn built then you can buy livestock. Call Rick at Yodel Farm using the telephone in your house. Yodel Farm is closed on Sundays. Each medium cow you buy from Rick will cost you 5000 G, and each adult Sheep is 4000 G. The animal you purchase will not appear inside of your new barn, but will be transported to the entrance of your farmland. You then have to push it to the area where you want to keep it. A medium cow will take 7 days to grow into an adult cow. The color of cow you buy is randomly selected so if you are looking for a specific color, save your game before calling Rick. If the color you don't want appears at the entrance to your farm, reload your game and buy a cow again until you get the color you want. You can leave the animal outside if there is mature grass available in your pasture or you can place it inside the barn. If it is going to rain or snow then the animal must be indoors and you will have to feed her every day using the Fodder you cut from your pasture or buy from Rick for 20 G each. Indoor animals will eat once a day but outdoor animals will eat twice. Just place the Fodder in one of the 4 stalls inside of the barn. It does not matter which stall you place the Fodder in as long as their is 1 fodder per animal. Inside the barn you will also find a mothering stall, where you can breed your cows and sheep. You can buy potions from Rick that will allow the animals to produce offspring. It takes 21 days for a pregnant cow or sheep to have a child. The pregnant animal can not go outside so you must remember to feed her every day. A cow potion costs 3500 G and a sheep potion costs 3000 G. If you want to breed a sheep she must have her full coat of wool before the potion will be effective. You just have to sprinkle the potion over the animal you wish to breed and she will be in the mothering stall the next day. A baby cow takes 14 days to mature. Cows can produce milk every day as long as they are happy. If you use your Milker on a mature cow then you will receive bottles of Small Milk. If you want medium or large sized milk you will need to use the Touch Panel Glove to "rub" the milk out of your cows. If you receive a score of at least 10,000 points then you will receive Medium Milk, and you need 22,500 points for Large Milk. During the rubbing mini game, swipe your stylus left and right against the cows udders to milk her. The Milker can be bought from Saibara Shop via your telephone for 2000 G. As for Sheep, they will have wool for your to cut with clippers. Each sheep's wool is cut up into 5 sections; head, back, front leg, belly, and back leg. The size of wool you obtain while clipping will depend on how many sections you collect the wool from. If you don't use the Touch Panel Glove then you will receive a small ball of Wool, up to 4 per sheep. If you use the Touch Glove then you can also collect Medium and Large pieces of Wool. Rubbing 2 sections will get you a Medium Wool and rubbing 3 sections will get you a Large. That leaves 2 small section left over, so you can get one Large and one Small piece of Wool from the sheep on the same day. Bap's Sheep Sheering Sheat Wool will regrow 8 days after you cut it. The Clippers come from Saibara Shop for 1800 G

When you start the game, you already have a cow. However, if you wish to buy another one, simply go to the shed where you put items to have Takakura sell in the city. If you go to the bin that allows you to place an order for Takakura to get while he is in the city, you'll have a list of what to buy. One of them should say something along the line of, "Buy an animal". A list of animals that you can buy will pop up. One should be a cow. Click that. Then, all you have to do is pick which cow you want: Male, Female, Brown, Star, and so on.
