If you are talking about when you get defeated in a dungeon, in special dungeons the system will ask if you want to send out a rescue statement. (i.e., being defeated in dungeons where you are on a special mission like defeating Groudon or Dusknoir.)
You have to be defeated in a dungeon.
To send an SOS mail in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, access the "Mail" option from the menu while in your base. Choose "Send SOS Mail," then select the dungeon where the Pokémon is located and the specific floor. After confirming the details, your SOS mail will be sent out, allowing other players to help rescue the stranded Pokémon.
There's no SOS Mail Password, it's kinda like wonder mail. It's just a code.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, you can receive SOS Mail by accessing the game's bulletin board in town. Look for requests that mention helping other Pokémon in distress, which often include SOS Mail tasks. Once you complete the request, it may lead to a special dungeon where you can rescue the Pokémon in need. Additionally, you can find SOS Mail in dungeons, which will guide you to rescue missions for other Pokémon.

there are only 2 ways to get all pokemon: 1.ACTION REPLAY 2.level up your hero to LV.100 and go to the menu and follow these steps: go to get SOS mail and get by communication;friend;wifi connection. get all SOS mail that has ? on them. complete them and defeat the boss. obtain the treasure.(bonus:the boss might be recruited to your roster.) give one of the treasures to your hero. go to a dungeon and start recruiting. Hint:the treasures makes it easy to recruit pokemon.
The password depends on who needs your help. Look online and you can find S.O.S passwords. There is a particular site on which you can learn to create your own A-OK Passwords in case no-one takes your SOS. It is quite good, but you may need a little help in understanding it - three lines of specific characters does get confusing!
