depends what was in the 98 dakota. if you take out a v8 and put in a v6 you will need a whole new computer fulelines and whos knows what. and the 88 might possibly be carburated and the 98 fuel injected.
Buy a new one!
sounds like an electrnic ignition module I have a dodge 1992 Dakota and it had that same problem, i have tried a lot of thingsthat i thought would work, but then i go a new computer from the junkyard, and it ranperfectly, hope this helps
The serpentine belt on a 2003 Dodge Dakota is replaced by loosening the belt tensioner and slipping the belt off. It can then be removed from the engine accessories and a new belt installed.
Your best bet is a salvage yard.
It involves reprogramming the computer with new software.
Unbolt the old ones and put the new one in.
It is doubtful, the last Dakota was made in August of 2011.
Unhooking the pos cable does not prove anything, the computer is the voltage regulator and unhooking the battery just confuses the computer voltage recognition ability.
You can get a belt diagram for your 1991 Dodge Dakota 3.9 liter engine, at most Dodge dealerships. Most auto-parts stores will give you a belt diagram when you purchase a new belt.
Apparently, according to a Dodge retailer, the computer on the 1998 Caravan can't get reprogrammed (the EPROM is not flashable). A new one is necessary...
