There is not technically a flight mode, but you can go into your connections icon and turn your mobile connection off, this will stop calls and messages.
Depends what Blackberry you have - I think I read that the 7250, Curve and Bold have wireless internet. Blackberry's website provides instructions on how to set it up.
Do you have data on? Did you sign up to get e-mails?
Maybe you've accidentally set it to "silent mode."

Anyone with a Blackberry Curve 8310 can set up an email account. Start by pressing the BlackBerry logo key. Scroll down the menu until you can select email settings.
