Regular 87 octane works fine.
TBI or carb the valves are set the same. It is a bit on the complacated side to explain. Any decent shop or repair manual has this process. The Chiltons manual #28642 "GENERAL MOTERS Full Size Trucks" or Haynes #24064 "Chevrolet & GMC Pick-ups" both have the compleat procedure.
