If your truck has manual locking hubs you will have to manual turn them and then shift the shifter into the 4x4. But make sure you do not leave your locking hubs locked for everyday driving. It can tear them up. Also in 4wd your gas mileage will go down and it will be harder to stear, this is normal.
My 1996 4wd Toyota Tacoma had a check engine light and the codes that were obtained were "shift selenoid....." I was informed that it was a sensor inside the transmissions and I has a transmission specialist (AAMCO) work on it. I think they ripped me off. I apid $850.00 to get the work done.

You should remove the positive cable from your 1996 Toyota battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.

on some toyotas if you pull the EFI fuse found under the hood, keep it out for 1 minute then replace. it will reset egn light
An SR5 is the V6 Engine package. The TRD is Toyota Racing Development found in most 4cyl 4WD 2.7ltr engines. (I'm 99% positive)
