So you have your video clip(s) on your movie maker. Now you have to click on the one you want to shorten. Then click on the right side of the clip, and pull it in to the left. Your clip is shorter. Another way to speed it up is to use effects. go to the top of the page, it should say tools somewhere in there, then click on video effects. scroll down and it says speed up double now you sound like a chipmunk!

∙ 14y agoVideo for Windows Movie Maker needs to contain one of the file name extensions (formats) listed below before it can be imported into Windows Movie Maker:
.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
To see if your video is a compatible format, right-click the file and choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Note the file extension (example: .wmv, .avi).
If the video is correctly formatted for Windows Movie Maker, click the Import Media button (top right corner of the program) and locate the video on your computer or Removable Disk. Click Import.
The video should appear in the Imported Media pane. Drag and drop the video into the Storyboard or Time-line view of the program and click Play in the preview pane to see the results.

∙ 14y agoYou can shorten video in Windows Movie Maker clicking on the start/end portion of the video and manually dragging it forward or backwards along the time-line. Or, you can use the Split feature (beneath Preview pane) to clip/trim the video to the desired length.

∙ 13y agoYou can't shorten them any less than 5 seconds in display duration in Windows Live Movie Maker.5 seconds is the default duration. In Windows Movie Maker version 2.6 you can shorten the default duration to .025... but not in Windows Live Movie Maker.

I use Windows 10 and think the Photos app can work well to shorten a video clip. Sure, it's not straightforward enough to do this job. We have to import the video, add it to a project, trim and save. Besides that, I own a video splitter - Joyoshare Media Cutter, on my PC. It functions to fast shorten videos in any format with no quality loss. For me, the modes it offers to cut can be accurate and flexible. Maybe you can try.
