For most needles, just wipe the area that you are going to give the shot in with alcohol, in the case of an intramuscular injection, pull the skin around the intended injection site taut. This will minimize the pain from the stick. It is also courteous to ask the person you are administering the injection to if they would like warning before you give them the shot (Example: have them take a deep breath in and when you tell them to release it administer the shot). Proceed to quickly stick the needle into the muscle and push in the contents of the syringe. Take out the needle and cover with a sterile bandage or other sterile dressing.

Easiest is to predict when the shooter is going for it and get an early lead. If you are athletic you could out jump your opponent and then you are in front of the shot. But don't forget you can get a penalty for goal tending!
