There used to be a way to change the image that showed when you were offline or online still. I think it's still possible you just have to find an overlay that will cover the original "I'm Online!" image up. As I said, I'm not sure if you can still do this as I rarely use Myspace anymore.

When you go on myspace there should be a blue bar on the bottom of your screen that's for myspace. In the bottom right corner on the blue bar it shows you your friends who are online and who are connected to IM (cause you can chage it to where it shows your offline for the IM). But click on the little tab that says online friends then click on the friend you want to talk to and a liitle thing will pop up where you can type. :)
