You can slide it the sideways way and then when it's at that point try to slide it the other way (vertical) but if you can't, then don't try harder because you might break the phone.
P.S. This usually only works on a matrix that is not new.

Yes. I own one. Pantech Matrix phones come in 3 different colors, red; blue; and green/black. They slide both ways; up and sideways. They have a full QWERTY keyboard for fast texting. They have a camera integrated into it. It has a music player on it as well. It includes great features such as IM, web browser, a GPS, and YELLOWPAGES, and all with easy access. The video camera only records 42 seconds. It has a voice recorder on it as well. It is reasonably small. This phone is great, for a reasonable price too!!I would highly reccommend this phone to any high tech users who love to text.

i have the matrix and i love it! its sooo cool how it has the dual slider feature (unlike my friends phone, hers has a full keyboard but its tooo confusing cause its all jumbled up :p). att doesnt have very many good phones in my oppinion so when i got a phone i had to chose between the matrix or the propel 2.
